Chapter 1 — What You’re
Actually Solving
Options: - Replacing an old ceiling fan with a new one in the same
spot. - Replacing a light fixture with a new fan (needs box upgrade). -
Installing a fan where no fixture exists (requires cutting new box in
ceiling — out of scope; specialist territory).
Safety first: kill breaker, test with non-contact voltage tester. The
wiring chapter assumes you’ve done that.
What this book covers
- Assessing the existing ceiling box.
- Installing a fan-rated brace box (from below, no attic access).
- Assembling the fan.
- Hanging, wiring, and balancing.
- Remote/smart-hub integration.
What this book doesn’t cover
- New ceiling cutouts (create a box where none exists).
- Multi-fan rooms (same principle, just repeat).
- Outdoor fans (different moisture specs).
