Chapter 1 — Find the Leaks

Incense test

1. Light a stick of incense.
2. Close all interior doors, turn on the kitchen range hood + all bathroom fans (creates negative pressure).
3. Hold the incense along door/window edges.
4. Smoke wavers inward at leak points.
5. Mark leaks with tape.

Thermal camera

If you have one (or rent for $40/day): - Cold spots in winter = air leaks. - Scan exterior doors, windows, outlet boxes on exterior walls.

Feel test

On a windy cold day, run your hand around door and window edges. Anywhere you feel cold air = leak.
