Chapter 1 — Identify Failed Caulk

Walk the exterior. Look at every caulk joint:

• Cracked caulk: will let water in. Replace.
• Pulled away from the substrate: same.
• Discolored, brittle, crumbly: past its life. Replace.
• Missing sections entirely: obvious replace.
• Looks fine but 10+ years old: replace proactively.

Priority joints (water-critical): - Window trim to siding. - Door trim to siding. - Siding to foundation. - Corner trim junctions. - Wall penetrations (exterior outlets, vents, hose bibs).
