Regrading the Lakeside Cabin
January 2017 – May 2017 · 10 photos · yard and landscape
The slope along the log cabin had been washing toward the foundation for years, and the old retaining wall was failing. I brought in a skid steer and a Kubota mini, pulled the slope back, set the new mini-split condenser on stable ground, and graded everything to drain away from the house. Finished it off with fresh crushed gravel for the drive so the lake side of the property had a hard surface to work off of.

During Rented skid steer staged in the drive — first thing I did was move the rock so I could get the machine in close.
-
During Tracked the excavator across the lake side of the yard to grade the shoreline and rough in the fire pit area.
-
During Pulled the yard between the shed and the cabin down to fresh dirt so I could re-establish drainage away from the foundation.
-
During Same regrade looking toward the dock — the old slope dumped water right at the cabin sill.
-
During Tracks across the back side after rough grading. From here I had a clean canvas to seed and stone.
-
During Re-sloped the ground around the new mini-split pad so the condenser sits high and dry.
-
During Soil pulled back off the log walls. Letting the cabin sit in damp dirt was rotting the bottom courses.

Before Old stacked-stone retaining wall had given up. I tore it out before rebuilding with bigger stone.

During Kubota and a fresh pile of crushed stone — staged for the new gravel drive surface.

After Drive after final gravel went down. Drains, doesn't rut, and gives me a place to park the trailer.
