Repainting the Whole Rental
March 2014 – January 2025 · 10 photos · painting
Once the drywall was sound I primed and repainted the whole unit. I masked the bathrooms off floor to ceiling and ran the airless sprayer for the big walls and ceilings, then cut in the accent rooms by brush — a yellow dining room, a sage room, and Ultra Pure White on the trim and main living spaces. French doors came off the hinges and got laid flat on sawhorses so they'd dry without runs.

After Yellow dining room finished out. Chandelier stayed up; I just bagged it and cut around.

During Cutting in the sage room by brush. Sprayer doesn't do you any good against a tight ceiling line.
-
During Kilz PVA primer for the patched drywall, Behr Marquee for the topcoat. Staged everything before I started rolling.
-
Behr satin enamel in Ultra Pure White — the workhorse for trim and the main living spaces.
-
During Drywall taped, miter saw set up for trim, paint staged. This was the moment everything was ready to prime.
-
During Caulked the baseboard to wall seam before pulling the tape so the paint line would be sharp.
-
During Tented the whole bathroom in plastic so I could spray the walls and ceiling without coating the fixtures.
-
During Window and vanity masked off tight. With a sprayer one missed spot means hours of cleanup.
-
During Airless rig staged in the masked-off room. Spraying is twice the prep but a quarter of the rolling time.

During Pulled the French doors off the hinges and laid them flat on sawhorses so they'd dry without runs.
