The kitchen had dark cabinets, green laminate counters, and yellow vinyl tile from another era. I tried to limp it along with a new range first, but once I started pulling vinyl up the floor was a layer cake going back to the original hardwood. So I committed — pulled cabinets, ripped the counters, opened up the doorway to the hallway, and took the floor down to the joists. Came back as white shaker cabinets, granite, subway tile, and LVP.
-
Before Original kitchen — dark cabinets, green laminate, vinyl floor. Everything had to go.
-
Before Other angle of the same kitchen before I started. The yellow vinyl was the giveaway on the age.
-
Before Cleared out and prepped for demo. I tried to save the oak cabinets at first but the boxes weren't worth saving.
-
During Dropped a new GE range in early thinking I'd just do appliances. That plan didn't survive the floor demo.
-
During Mid-demo — fridge in, old stove out, ladder and tools everywhere.
-
During Pulled the floor coverings to expose the subfloor. Cast iron radiator stayed.
-
During Widened the doorway between the kitchen and hallway. Took the trim off and patched the brick jamb.
-
During Looking from the freshly painted hallway back into the room with the subfloor still open.
-
During Arched doorway during demo. Original wood floors underneath all that debris.
-
During Counters out, plywood backing exposed, tools spread across the subfloor.
-
During Capped the gas line and pulled the rest of the appliances so I could work clean.
-
During Counters gone, original subfloor exposed. Time to figure out what the cabinet layout actually wanted to be.
-
During Cabinets coming out in pieces. At this point I was committed to a full rebuild.
-
During Started prepping the cabinets I was keeping for paint — taped them off and pulled the doors.
-
During Cabinet doors and drawer fronts laid out on plastic for refinishing.
-
During Stained doors and trim drying on plastic in the back room.
-
During Green tape everywhere — boxes masked off, doors off, plywood backing waiting for tile.
-
During Last pass of masking before the backsplash and counters went in.
-
After Finished — white cabinets, subway tile, stainless appliances, LVP on the floor.
-
After Shaker fronts, subway tile to the underside of the uppers, LVP throughout.
-
After Galley view — granite, stainless, and new flooring. Same footprint, completely different room.
-
After Black counters against the white cabinets. Cleaner look than the green laminate it replaced.
-
After Wide shot of the finished kitchen. White shaker, black granite, new appliances.
-
After Cooktop side of the finished kitchen. Bright walls and clean lines after months of dust.
