Every room had something glued to the original wood — vinyl tile, parquet, peel-and-stick over hardwood, and tar paper that had been there longer than I've been alive. I worked room by room scraping it all off with a power chisel and a lot of patience. The kitchen subfloor was rotted from a long-term leak, so that got cut out and patched before any new floors went down.
