Original attic was an unfinished plank floor with a whole-house fan and not much else. I cleared it out, ran rafter baffles between every truss to keep the soffit-to-ridge airflow open, and laid down R-30 kraft-faced batts. Did the same approach on the rest of the envelope where I could get to it during the gut. Future-proofed it for a finish-out later if anyone wants the space.
-
Before Attic as I bought it — exposed rafters, plank floor, gable window. No insulation worth the name.
-
Before Cleared out and the gable fan running. Wanted air moving while I worked.
-
Before Empty plank floor, ready for baffles and batts.
-
During Rafter baffles in to keep airflow, R-30 kraft-faced batts on top. Did every bay the same.
-
Before Attic cleaned and lit by a tripod light at the end of the day. Quiet up here once the house was sealed.
