The attic was an unfinished mess — lath, dead insulation, old knob-and-tube remnants, plank floor full of nails. Worse, one of the structural beams had a bad split at a joint. I cleared everything out, sistered rafters where they were undersized, reinforced the ridge with bolted plates, and got the floor back patched before any new framing went in.
-
Before Original attic — lath wall, gable window, exposed rafters. Storage at best, nothing finished.
-
Before Same view from another angle. Plank sheathing, no insulation, gable window at the end.
-
Before Roof decking nails poking through and old wiring strung along the planks. All of it had to go.
-
Before Cleared-out attic with a work light running. Quiet stage before framing started.
-
Before Cracked structural beam at one of the joints. Sistered and bolted before I trusted anything to it.
-
During Stripped to plank floors and bare rafters under a single work light. Demo dust everywhere.
-
During Fisheye camera shot through the framing once the lath came off. Wide-open envelope.
-
During Same gut stage from the other end. Plank floors, exposed rafters, work light.
-
During Engineered roof trusses exposed after the sheathing came off. Cleaner than I expected.
-
During Old insulation pulled out, shop vac running, trash bags filling up.
-
During Last of the old batts stacked along the rafters before they went out for haul-away.
-
During Pulled some floorboards to access the joist bays and run new wiring before the floor closed back up.
-
During Sister boards bolted alongside the original rafters where the framing was undersized.
-
During Ridge beam with the bolted plate reinforcement and walls down to studs.
-
During Ridge beam reinforcement plates in with active work materials still scattered around.
-
During Mid-cleanup with the ridge and rafters all open. Floor still original plank.
-
During Empty attic under work lights once the last of the debris came out.
-
During Shop vac and ladder staged for the next phase. Floor was as clean as it was going to get.
-
During Black vapor barrier draped along the slope before I started building down both sides.
-
During Patched the floorboards back in after the wiring was done. Ready for finish work.
