Months after the gut wrapped, a hairline crack opened in the kitchen ceiling and the drywall started sagging in one spot. I masked off the cabinets and counters with plastic, opened the ceiling above the recessed cans, and traced it to a slow leak from a bathroom drain on the floor above. Pulled the bad section, patched in new drywall, mudded, sanded, and repainted. Caught it before it got into the cabinets.
-
Before Hairline crack running down the corner seam. Where I started chasing the leak from.
-
Before Drywall sagging and torn where the water came through. Opened it up the next morning.
-
During Recessed light pulled down through the oversized hole so I could see the wiring and the leak path.
-
During Ceiling opened above the cabinets with plastic over everything below. Traced the drip to a bathroom drain joint.
-
During Pink insulation visible above the cabinets where I cut back to dry framing.
-
During New patch sheeted in with the cabinets still masked. First coat of mud going on.
-
During Patched section above the cabinets waiting on a sand and a paint touch-up.
-
During Mud feathered around the recessed can. Plastic stays up until the sanding's done.
-
During Final pass of joint compound. One more sanding and a primer coat and the ceiling reads clean again.
