The original bathroom had no exhaust — moisture was rotting the ceiling. I cut into the bath ceiling, ran flex duct through the attic joists under the vapor barrier, set a new fan/light combo, and put a black roof cap on the asphalt to vent it cleanly outside. No more soft drywall above the shower.

Before Roof before — frost on the old shingles. The valley is where the new vent cap had to land.
-
During Exploratory hole in the bath ceiling, marked for the patch and the new fan housing.

During Old junction box with cloth-wrapped wiring twisted together up there. All of it got replaced.
-
New flex duct routed through the joists under the vapor barrier on its way to the roof cap.
-
During Reciprocating saw on the ladder mid-cut. Cleanest way to drop the old fan housing.
-
After New fan/light combo in the ceiling. Quiet, vented, and it actually moves air.
-
After Black roof cap on the shingles against winter sky. Bathroom moisture finally has somewhere to go.
