The original fieldstone fireplace was solid but the mortar joints had rotted out and the mantel was beat up. I repointed the joints with fresh mortar one block at a time, refinished the wood mantel, and reset the hearth stones. Did it while the rest of the living room was getting new floors and paint so everything came together at once.
-
During Hearth blocks pulled and staged. Drill out, ready to start repointing the failed joints.
-
During Worked the fireplace at the same time as the room paint so I only set up once.
-
During Mantel refinished and back up. Laminate going down underneath while the mortar cured.
-
After Done. Fresh mortar joints, refinished mantel. The stone tells the whole story now.
