The original roof had lifted ridge cap, a cracked fascia, and moss running the gutter line. I had a roofing crew strip it down to bare decking, replace bad sheathing, lay new underlayment, re-flash the stone chimney and skylights, and shingle the whole thing. We tarped the siding and shrubs hard so the tear-off didn't tear up everything below.
-
Before Old shingles — ridge cap lifted, fascia cracked at the gutter, granules basically gone. Past due.
-
Before Roof and stone chimney with a light snow, before tear-off. You can see the patched-over spots where it had been leaking.
-
Before Rear elevation: weathered siding, deck, and the old roof. Lined up the roof job to happen before the deck got rebuilt below.
-
Before Side view with the tall stone chimney and peeling paint — chimney got new flashing as part of the roof job.
-
During Roll-off dropped down the wooded driveway. Twenty cubic yards of old shingles were going somewhere.
-
During Crew tearing off the old layer down to the deck. I wanted eyes on the sheathing before anything new went on.
-
During Stripping shingles off the front gable. Tarps below catching the bulk of it.
-
During Roofer working high on the hillside slope. This was a steep one — staging mattered.
-
During Down to bare decking. A few sheets needed to come out before underlayment went on.
-
During Shingle pile growing on the tarps below. Easier to bag straight off the tarps than pick out of the bushes.
-
During Tarped the siding and shrubs hard so the tear-off didn't beat up everything I'd just cleaned.
-
During Big gray tarp draped down the side wall, blue tarp patched in at the roofline. Belt and suspenders during the open-roof window.
-
During Underlayment going down around the dormer and gable. Nice to see weatherproofing back on before nightfall.
-
During Crew working around the stone chimney. Re-flashed it properly with step flashing instead of relying on tar.
-
During Whole roof down to deck, ladder set, ready for shingles. The lake side gets the most weather.
-
Before Old roof edge where moss had built up at the drip line — that section came off easy once we stripped it.
-
After Fresh valley running down to a re-flashed skylight. Clean lines, water has somewhere to go.
-
After New shingles around the skylight. Step flashing tucked in proper instead of caulked over.
-
After Re-flashed stone chimney with the lake behind it. That's the joint I was most worried about, and it's tight.
-
After Finished roof from the back — skylight, dormers, chimney all flashed in. Sat and looked at it for a while.
-
After Dormer and gutter line against the sky. New roof, new gutters, no more chasing leaks down inside the house.
