I wanted the wide opening to be closeable without giving up floor space, so I bought two Rocket Door Frames pocket-door kits and ganged them in the new framing. The kits use steel pockets that drop into a stick-framed wall, which let me match the LVL header height and avoid any drywall surgery later.

During Both pocket frames set into the new opening under the exposed header.

During Both slabs hung and rolling. From here it's just drywall, casing, and trim.
